Charge instability of symmetry broken dipolar states in quadrupolar and octupolar triphenylamine derivatives.
The quadrupolar and octupolar cyano triphenylamines shows symmetry broken dipolar charge transfer state, however, its stability can be controlled by the rotation of N-C bond of amino and phenylene moiety.
متن کاملPhotoinduced symmetry-breaking intramolecular charge transfer in a quadrupolar pyridinium derivative.
We report here a joint experimental and theoretical study of a quadrupolar, two-branched pyridinium derivative of interest as a potential non-linear optical material. The spectral and photophysical behaviour of this symmetric system is greatly affected by the polarity of the medium. A very efficient photoinduced intramolecular charge transfer, surprisingly more efficient than in the dipolar asy...
متن کاملA simple model of solvent-induced symmetry-breaking charge transfer in excited quadrupolar molecules.
A simple model has been developed to describe the symmetry-breaking of the electronic distribution of AL-D-AR type molecules in the excited state, where D is an electron donor and AL and AR are identical acceptors. The origin of this process is usually associated with the interaction between the molecule and the solvent polarization that stabilizes an asymmetric and dipolar state, with a larger...
متن کاملReplica Symmetry Breaking in an Axial Model of Quadrupolar Glass
We perform the replica symmetry breaking (RSB) in the vicinity of the point of instability of the replica symmetric solution in the model of axial quadrupolar glass. It is shown that the solution with the first stage RSB is stable against the second stage RSB. Although there is no reflection symmetry the 1RSB solution bifurcates continuously from the RS one. These facts mean that our model can ...
متن کاملPomeranchuk instability: symmetry breaking and experimental signatures
We discuss the emergence of symmetry-breaking via the Pomeranchuk instability from interactions that respect the underlying point-group symmetry. We use a variational mean-field theory to consider a 2D continuum and a square lattice. We describe two experimental signatures: a symmetry-breaking pattern of Friedel oscillations around an impurity; and a structural transition.
